Should India declare a war against Pakistan now?
India Should go on a WAR against Pakistan this Time.
Reason:
- Once Gwadar Port and CPEC are complete India will be in a Very bad position. The way Pakistan works as of now is not going to change any sooner.
- Once China has better placement and the string of pearls is complete there will be no helping for India and at that time the chances of winning a war will become Even more less.
- India - Pakistan War is Inevitable. It will happen some day , if not India will keep losing territory from both sides.
- There has been no Nuclear war in recent history. Everyone fears it and if such a war breaks out US,UK,Russia and China will lose a lot. I work for an Indian MNC and I know what kind of projects we have for all these countries and what happens in their location if something goes wrong and there is no body from India to fix it.
- Consider this: 25 lakh people in India work in IT Industry. If I say 1 Lakh of these people stop coming to office the Impact on other countries will be huge. for example: Infosys, TCS, WIPRO, Cognizant these four companies control Gas, Oil, Electricity, Nuclear, Banks, Share Market, Water Supply and other Important sector of European Countries, USA, Middle East, Japan and other countries. if these sector related work halts from Indian End there will be huge loss at all these geographies.
- Given all above things nobody will let Pakistan Fire a nuclear missile and the war will remain a non nuclear one with china supporting Pakistan and USA supporting India(to create unrest on Chinese borders).
- Within the short tenure of Modi govt India has suffered 3 major Issues related national safety. If modi doesn’t react this time there probably will not be a second time. From Political front he has to take some steps If not a full scale war .
I would suggest you to start reading newspapers from both India and Pakistan and also keep a track of UK and US newspapers. A lot of the picture will get clear to you after that.
: With the backdrop of the Uri attacks following in close succession to the Pathankot attacks and intermixed with the eternal Kashmir issue it is stoking frustration which is leading to a flurry of such questions on quora, which i will try to answer.
First of all let us understand 2 things-
- Pakistan is no longer the Pakistan of 1960s and 1970s, today it is nuclear armed.
- Secondly, it is backed to the hilt by the Chinese.
Uri was an intelligence failure to anticipate this attack and perhaps (sorry to say this bitter truth) at the early morning hours between 3AM and 5AM, 1 or more guards were half asleep at their posts (probably dead tired or distracted). This meant the alertness was reduced and a few men slipped in and a tent was lit on fire which resulted in over a dozen casualties, the total casualties are now reported to be 20 dead. (burned alive is what the reports say of many of them).
Now, first of all let us understand what happens if we declare war-
If War comes- China + Pakistan will be allies against India and based on the individual strengths of India, China and Pakistan -
China Military Strength (China), India Military Strength (India) and Pakistan Military Strength (Pakistan); things look terrible for India.
If it becomes a total war, Pakistan will lose its country, India will lose a lot of manpower (100 million casualties based on Nuclear War estimates) and be pushed back 50 years economically, but China itself may not come out an easy Winner and may end up losing 10s of millions and trillions of dollars in property, pushing them back a decade or two economically. This is the main reason why War hasn’t come till date. War generally starts when a nation thinks they have a “CLEAR” chance of a “CHEAP” victory (whether it can be realistically achieved or not is another discussion entirely).
However what can be done short of war is what is important-
- Increase spending on overt and covert operations, which means recruit more manpower and spend more on the Intelligence agencies, Border Security forces, Police forces etc.
- Isolate Pakistan entirely internationally.
- Launch a few “surgical strikes” using special forces to target terrorist camps.
- Launch long range artillery fire to target Pakistani forward positions combined with aggressive patrolling along the border.
- Building an electrical fence, with thermal imaging equipment and 24/7 remote monitoring possibilities of the entire border should be a key priority despite the cost.
- Hack into security systems of the Pakistani establishment and attack them economically.
Summary- If war comes today, Russia and East Asia as well as Israel will remain neutrals with a slight tilt to India but will continue supplying weapons and systems to both India and China (and make killer profits). The USA will also adopt more or less the same position, as it wants to side with India for its own vested interests but also needs Pakistan to control Central Asian Interests of the USA. However, this doesn’t mean there are no options left, there are options always.

No, India has lot of options other than the ultimate weapon of open warfare.
I do not think, declaring a war is directly going to be a decision of India in any case. I think the current establishment will take into account the readiness of the US and Russia to support India in case of a war. It is a very strong possibility that in case India declares war against Pakistan, China would openly come out in support of Pakistan. Strategically, that would be disastrous for India. We must be cognisant of the fact that in all earlier cases of Indo-Pak wars, it was Pakistan who acted as the aggressor and hence, it was harder for them to garner international support (in spite of this, US had sent its warship to Indian Ocean in support of Pakistan).
What India can do is:
- Support the cause of Baluchistan more aggressively/openly.
- Declare economic and trade sanctions on Pakistan.
- Use other covert options of warfare, with support of new formed ally, the US and, older friend Russia.
- If it can garner some implicit international support, clinically strike chosen terrorist camps in POK. This may not account as an act of territorial aggression by India, if you have support of some key international partners. Israel’s example may be used to justify these actions. Onus of declaring an open war on India would be then, on Pakistan.
Option of open warfare at this stage is very risky for India, considering the China factor.

India is already taking aggressive steps against Pakistan, also this is the first time India that has been shown such aggressiveness against Pakistan. That is the reason you see these things like URI happening in India.
India is taking every opportunity and every international forum to talk about terrorism in Pakistan. You can see that in last G20 Summit in China which was a financial forum, but India spoke about terrorism in South Asian region and said that only one country is spreading terrorism in whole of Asia. This was an indirect reference to Pakistan and every country knows this. Also since India is a considerable power in the World, its words will be taken into account in near future by the world powers.
First time our PM has started every possible approach regarding Balochistan issue in Pakistan. PM spoke about Balochistan in Independence speech. Indian representative in UNHRC is continuously taking up Balochistan issue as human rights abuse in Pakistan. India has started All India Radio website and app for Balochi language. India may even provide asylum to Mr Bugti in near future. Since Balochistan is the biggest weak point of Pakistan and there were no country who spoke up against Balochi issue because of China, Pakistan never feared. Now Pakistan is in very high pressure when India took up the issue. So Pakistan is trying to increase all kinds of problem in Kashmir and using all possible terrorist activities to create problems in Kashmir, so that Indian government will in panic do some military operation in Kashmir and Pakistan will use this as human rights abuse in international forum against Indian Balochi card.
Our Home Minister is about to visit US and Russia to talk with these nations regarding terrorism in Pakistan and also trying to sideline Pakistan from international trade. Also after making US as a friend, India has already succeeded in reducing US aid to Pakistan. Also day by day India is making US to sideline Pakistan. This time US is going to become a partner country of India in Gujarat Vibrant Summit.
Our country has in recent made good efforts in making friendship with new Afghanistan Prime Minister, so now Afghanistan’s new Prime Minister which once thought would go with Pakistan friendship is now a big opposition of Pakistan.
Now the new efforts are being made to make China as a friend. China is in considerable pressure as its economy is slowing down. India is trying to convince China that if it goes with Pakistan it could be harm to its people considering terrorism in Pakistan. So we are convincing China to go away from Pakistan. This is the only effort needed to make China oppose Pakistan. Because if this happens Pakistan will be sidelined by the world and it will become a fail nation (It is already a failed nation, this step will confirm it).

Q: Should India wage war against Pakistan?
A: Yes but No.
Surprised..Ya..India should wage war against Pakistan but not now. The reasons:
- Pakistan is nuclear equipped.
- Pakistan has currently obtaining status of Syria of Indian subcontinent (means the people residing within pakistan are itself not safe from terrorist. Everyday we listen bomb blast at some part of country.
- I had read an article of one popular research company of US some year ago where is is threatened the entire world by saying that Nuclear weopens are not safe in Pakistan and can be handed over to Terrorists groups in emergency.
- China is backbone behind Pakistan's darening against India. So India must be ready to war with China also.
- Pakistan had nothing to lose in current scenario but India had much. After Independence if we compare both the countries we are climbing upward but our neighbor constantly degreasing in economy.
I just want to say that the things will be very much difficult for India considering collective military powers of Pakistan and China. Most of us only know the strength of Indian Army but certainly there are weakness too.
- If we consider border of Arunachal Pradesh, China had railway line at about 2 kms from border, but India is lacking basic road facility itself due to China's pressure on earlier UPA Govt. Now Shri Narendra Modi had started this project despite several warnings from China. But note still we are not ahead of China's infra at this border.
- Again to mention is border at Amarnath China had helipad but Indian Govt stay the holy trip to Amarnath Badrinath Kedarnath in case of weather change. We are lacking here also.
- Recently Narendra Modi inaugaratted the four line highway connecting Badrinath Kedarnath and other holy places in way saying that it will reduce the time. But actually it will now easy for Indian Army to move soldiers there easily.
So we are enhancing ourselves slowly but steadily and this is what we want. Because 5th war between India Pakistan will be very much destructive and we wish we should not be at minus position at any point of issue. Let's make rehearsal first and make sure our army will not be at disadvantage in no way.
Global scenario in war situation:
- America : We can't rely on America at all because it has to control Asia for that it can play neutral role or biased role to gain political advantage.
- Russia : This is strong competitor for Mahasatta after America and also a good friend of us but no sure shot guarantee that they will support us fully because they even know it will pull them to back 20 years .
- Others' support like Japan Israel is also unsure.
- I mean to say the truth is currently India does not have friend like China for Pakistan.
So its very clear that main role has to play us only. We can't be dependent on others. So streangthen Indian Army to atop is only option .
Is war ineavitiable:
Well it is dependent on changing situation in Pakistan.
- Recently Freedom of Baloochisthan being 48% of Pakistan had taken different way. If things go in our favour in near future Pakistan will leave Kasmir issue and put it on Baloochisthan.
- readers are requested to view speeches of Tarik Fatah bieng main leader of Baloochisthan.
- Also if certain Political changes occurs and Govt is in the hands of some intellectual personal, we even need to struggle for Kashmir.
- But if not then we must take full and final step to defeat Pak completely and merge it in Indian subcontinent because now onwards we should not only forgive deaths of our soldiers, there lives are not cheap to give up by bullets of certain idiots.
Once we equipped ourselves with all possible impacts of war we should not wait further more and let end the Pakistan topic forever and ever. We should prepare in this way that no a single person like Hafeez Sayyed would live in Indian subcontinent.
Jai Hind!
Abhishek Soni, Following India-Pak relation since long time.
India can not declare a war against Pakistan right now because Pakistan is expecting it from India at this moment and is well prepared now. India should wait for right moment.
It is not one vs one between Pakistan and India. It is China + Pakistan vs India. We can not afford a war against China not because we will loose but because It will hurt our economy vert badly. World has started seeing our potential and is coming in front for trading with us. Whole of world is seeing us next big thing. Our doctors, engineers, researchers and space program are being appreciated all around and we can not put this on stake.
Pakistan is shit nation having no motto no aim no development but only having destroying India vision. On other hand India has a big vision and potential. Nation having big vision should not be effected by a barking dog.
Although I am not supporting we should be mum and keep seeing our soldiers being killed. We should handle this issue strategically. We have to increase number of covert operation. Army should be given more freedom at border. We must see our loop holes. How four terrorist can come and destroy an army camp which is just 6 KM away from LoC. We have to admit this is our failure also.
We have to handle Kashmir issue first of all. Unrest in Kashmir is hurting Indian sentimental at international level also. You can not fight a war in land where people are opposing you. We have to understand Kashmiri people sentimental also and ensure them India will find a solution soon and there will be complete peace, development in valley just like other states of India. We should respect their patience for 70 years instead of cursing them for their protest of last two months. They also want to roam freely anywhere anytime without being suspected as terrorist .
Pakistan is hitting us at our soft part i.e Kashmir . We should hit back on Balochistan and PoK. Later or sooner, right and repetitive aggression from India will push Pakistan on back-foot.
Try to make more allies and strategically create an atmosphere where China has no option left but sit neutral. We have strong leader this time and this can be done. China has it’s own border issues with other countries as well. Strong relation with those nation can put china on back-foot. Once china is neutral India should not wait and should strike leaving it’s don’t shoot first policy aside.
Wars are not won by bigger army but by right strategy and right timing.
P.S. Pardon for english
Manish Chaurasia, want peace for both countries
Eighteen brave soldiers martyred. Of them more than a dozen were sleeping in their barracks when four Jaish-e-Mohammad fidayeens attacked an Indian Army camp.Thirty others injured. Of them, at least ten are critically wounded. From Pathankot, the scene of terror has shifted to Uri.
So, what would the Modi government do? Will it once again send a dossier to Islamabad, seeking "justice" for the crimes perpetrated on Indian soil?
Or, will it invite Pakistani officials at Uri to have a firsthand look at the scene of terror, as was done at Pathankot? (Ironically, when the NIA wanted to visit Pakistan for investigations, it was roundly rebuffed!)
Thankfully, the initial government response has been satisfying. Never in the recent past has one seen a more resolute and purposeful reaction from the government.
While the party in power, the BJP, wants "jaw for tooth", Union minister Jitendra Singh says not responding to the terror would be"cowardice".And rightly so as the government must realise that it was chosen by people to act resolutely against Pakistan, and not just send dossiers after every act of terror.
In fact, the "biryani diplomacy" of the previous dispensation should not be replaced with the "dossier diplomacy" of this government. For, every act of not responding adequately to Pakistan further encourages the elements inimical to India.
Pathankot got us to Uri. Not acting on Uri will surely take us to something even bigger - and worse.
India behaves the way it does for two reasons: one, we as a nation have failed to comprehend the true nature of Pakistani state despite 68 years of incessant hostilities from the neighbourhood.
Last week when India raised, for the first time, the Balochistan issue before the United Nations, some of our celebrated peaceniks, global citizens and woolly-headed liberals found their voices again, saying how a prosperous Pakistan is good for India.
A few so-called experts, on the basis of few weeks of fam trip experiences in Pakistan, fondly recalled how people there were just like us! "They didn't even charge us a penny for the kebab in Lahore after knowing that we are Indians," one Pakistan "expert" has told this writer.
It is this kind of discourse that creates a make-believe divide of the army versus the civilian, the masses versus the government.
The question is: does it help India whether there's a military regime or the civilian?
A look at Pakistan's short history suggests the two work in tandem. Gen Zia-ul-Haq, for instance, is blamed for the Islamisation of Pakistan, but the fact is it was Zulfikar Bhutto, a Leftist by orientation, who made Pakistan the Islamic Republic.
It was the government of his daughter, Benazir Bhutto, which not only helped create the Taliban, but also was the first to recognise their rule in Afghanistan.
As for Nawaz Sharif, he instituted death penalty for blasphemy, besides introducing the infamous Sharia Bill!
Pakistan is an abnormal state and its unifying factors are Islam and anti-India sentiments.
The anti-India feeling flourishes in Pakistan not just because there's the army but because there's a thriving civilian ecosystem which detests its eastern neighbour.
An anti-India mindset at the top can't exist for long without a support base from the bottom. Former Pakistan ambassador Rajiv Dogra recalls in his book, Where Borders Bleed, how an unnamed Pakistani foreign minister confided that his greatest wish was that God should "place a nuclear bomb each on my palms... One I would drop on Bombay, the other on Delhi".
Sadly, this is not an exceptional opinion in Pakistan. Khaled Ahmed explains this phenomenon in his latest book, Sleepwalking to Surrender: Dealing with Terrorism in Pakistan.
"Muslims produce their best men when they are not ruling the state they live in… When Muslims acquire a state they go into a kind recidivist trance: 'give us utopia or nothing'," writes Khaled as he recalls how Pakistan accepts the discipline of economics while ideologically rejecting the concepts of banking and savings, and how one prominent nuclear scientist promises to produce electricity for all of Pakistan from one "tamed jinn"!
The second problem which India faces vis-à-vis its western neighbour is we always deal with it from a defensive point of view. "Oh, we can't be too aggressive with them, they have nuclear bombs!"
One would hear such discourses many a times. What our so-called experts fail to understand that there are over a dozen steps a government can take before going for a full-fledged war.
India, for instance, can throw the 1960 Indus Water Treaty, which unduly favours Pakistan, into the dustbin. Without shelling a single mortar, India can make Pakistan crawl.
Then, of course, we should leverage our economic might. It's time India sends a clear message to the world that Pakistan is a pariah state, a "criminal enterprise" as Sir Vidia Naipaul would famously call it. Do business with it and the Indian market is beyond you.
Last but not least, why should Delhi buy weapons from any country which funds Islamabad?
Uncle Sam, which in the last few years has become India's largest supplier of weapons, would definitely listen to this point.

No, simply because it isn't worth it!
Everyday I see people on quora and social media talking and criticising the PM for not retaliating against Pakistan with the help of the military. But why? Only for revenge? Or to show that our military power is greater than theirs? What about the bigger picture that lies behind it?
The truth is that Pakistan doesn't stand a chance against India, but the reason that the government shouldn't go for an all-out war against Pakistan is because it has bigger things to worry about. If you recall the wars of 1965, 1971 and 1999, all of them took place because Pakistan attacked Indian territory first. India retalitated, and had resounding victories.
Now, coming to your question, historically, India has always been a peace-loving nation. It knows that it has nothing to gain from a war with Pakistan, and so it is better to find alternative routes to fight Pakistan such as diplomatic isolation, trade sanctions, etc. Doing this will bring shame to the entire Pakistani government and make them lose all credibility in front of other countries.
India's economy is growing at a very fast pace, recently outpacing even China. If it goes to war during this time, it will lose the chance to capitalise on this as the economy will be pushed about 20–30 years back. India has many internal problems to solve at present such as poverty, unemployment, etc where the money that would have gone for war can be used. The government knows this and so, is reluctant about going to war.
At a time when Pakistan is openly threatening to use nuclear weapons, only a fool would go to war with them. Even if they use them, they know that only a part of India will be destroyed, but their country will be completely annihilated in return. Its like saying, “We will die, but we will drag the whole of South Asia along with us”. Thousands of civilians will die as a result, more on the Indian side as a result of the large population. Think about it now, is risking the lives of so many civilians worth it?
The truth is that at the moment the time is ripe for us to develop ourselves to the level that China has become, and avoiding unnecessary wars will only accelerate this. There are plenty of other ways of tackling Pakistan which can prove to be better. With the growing number of allies that India is making, an unnecessary war may nullify all the work in this direction. So, I believe that the best decision as of now would be to avoid war and solve the ongoing issues with sly and aggressive diplomacy.
